- Express Eternal Natural Beauty through Jewelry Design-
Ayaka Nishi, a Jewelry Designer in New York is getting attention from people with her nature inspired jewelry.
Her jewelry is inspired by natural materials and shapes such as a Spider Web, Honeycomb, Coral, Bone, Cell and Fish Scales.
Her Jewelry was featured on Vogue U.K, ELLE U.S magazine. If you see long term- evolved organic unique forms, you can realize it is the origin of life.
Ayaka was born in Kagoshima. When she was an elementary school student, she used to go to her neighborhood to dig fossils with her father.
Through playing in a nature-filled environment, Ayaka found organic beauty and became interested in Biology, Bone, Anatomy and nature.
Ayaka began to enjoy creating artistic pieces like paintings and sculptures.
Her mother who is traditional Japanese flower arrangement artist recommended her to study Art History and Aesthetic in college. She became more interested in a creative career and decided to study jewelry making at the Japan Jewelry Craft Institute in Tokyo. After graduating college, Ayaka received a jewelry designer position from a Jewelry company in Tokyo; however, she couldn't find interest in designs with cute symbols like hearts and stars. Therefore, she decided not to work as a Jewelry Designer and decided to work as a Graphic Designer.
When she was working as a Graphic Designer, she worked for big clients like Seibu Department Store, Tower Record, and a cosmetic company site. After working for 5 years as a Graphic Designer in a fast paced commercial industry, Ayaka decided she wanted to do a more personal design that wouldremain in the future.
She decided to quit her career as a Graphic Designer and move to New York to study Jewelry Design.
Her original plan was to stay in New York only for 6 months but New York was an attractive city for
someone who loves creativity.
Ayaka studied at an English school for 1 year to pass an English exam. She was finally
accepted into the Jewelry Design department of F.I.T (New York Fashion Institute of Technology)
and graduated in 2008. Going back to school in another country after working in a Japanese company was not easy.
After many complicated decisions and overcoming many challenges,
she feels she is currently standing at the right place of challenging herself.
She had the opportunity to work for two CFDA award winner designers.
This experience has helped her develop her own brand.
She exhibited her own jewelry fashion show successfully at Hotel Empire this past February.
This upcoming September, she has been invited to do a solo jewelry exhibition in Seoul.
'I believe absolute beauty exists in nature.
I want to keep making nature inspired jewelry that people would think is beautiful even a thousand years later.'
Ayaka said. She is going to start her own Jewelry workshop this August.
